What is transitional plate?

Transitional plate refers to a type of plate boundary that lies between divergent and convergent boundaries. In transitional plate boundaries, the plates move past each other parallel to their boundaries. They can also be referred to as transform faults or strike-slip faults. Earthquakes frequently occur along transitional plate boundaries, as the plates' motion can cause large amounts of friction and stress, leading to the release of energy in the form of seismic waves. The most famous example of a transitional plate boundary is the San Andreas Fault in California.
